What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies such as local storage work in comparable ways. This policy uses the word 'cookies' to cover both.

Categories we use

• Necessary — required for the website to function, including anti-spam protection on our forms (Google reCAPTCHA) and remembering your cookie choices. These cannot be switched off.
• Functional — remember preferences such as your light or dark theme selection.
• Analytics — help us understand how the website is used so we can improve it. These are not set unless you accept them.
• Marketing — would be used to measure campaign effectiveness. None are currently in use, and none are set unless you accept them.

Cookies and storage we use

The specific items below are what this website actually stores. Some are stored in your browser rather than as traditional cookies.

rs-consent — first-party browser local storage — Strictly necessary (consent management)

Records your cookie choices so we do not ask again. Set when you make a consent choice. Kept on your device until you clear it or we update the consent version. No consent required.

rs-theme — first-party browser local storage — Preferences

Remembers your light or dark theme. Set when you change the theme; kept until you clear it. Set only as a result of your action.

rs-attribution — first-party session storage — Functional

Records how you first reached the site so an enquiry can be attributed. Set on your first page in a browsing session and cleared when you close the tab. First-party and session-only; not shared with any third party.

_GRECAPTCHA — Google reCAPTCHA (third-party, google.com) — Strictly necessary (security)

Protects our forms from spam and automated abuse. Set by Google when reCAPTCHA loads; typical duration around six months (set and controlled by Google under its own terms). It loads on all pages because a protected form (the newsletter signup) is in the site footer. Not used for advertising, so no consent is required for this security function.

_ga and _ga_<id> — Google Analytics 4 (third-party, Google) — Analytics

Distinguish users and sessions to measure website use. Set only after you accept analytics cookies and only where analytics is enabled in our configuration. Typical duration up to two years (set and controlled by Google). IP anonymisation is enabled. Consent required.

_clck, _clsk and related — Microsoft Clarity (third-party, Microsoft) — Analytics

Measure how the site is used, for example through session replay and heatmaps. Set only after you accept analytics cookies and only where Clarity is enabled in our configuration. Microsoft may set additional cookies under its own terms; typical durations range from one day (_clsk) to one year (_clck). Consent required.

Your choices

When you first visit the site you are asked to accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or set your own preferences. Non-essential cookies are not set unless and until you opt in.

You can change your choices at any time using the 'Cookie settings' link in the website footer. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although doing so may affect how parts of the site work.

Third-party cookies

Where analytics cookies are accepted, they may be set by third-party providers (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) acting on our instructions. No third-party analytics or marketing script is loaded before consent is given.

Separately, Google reCAPTCHA loads on every page as a strictly necessary security measure to protect our forms from spam and abuse. It may set a cookie controlled by Google; this happens regardless of analytics or marketing consent because it is a security function, not advertising. Google processes this data under its own privacy terms.
